We offer you a cultural and gastronomic tour of Funchal on foot from 9 am to 1 pm. We will discuss 600 years of history including: the importance of the cultivation of sugar cane, the "white gold" of the 15th century which attracted a certain Christopher Columbus, today cultivated to produce internationally awarded rum, the trade in the famous and much appreciated Madeira wine, this complex nectar which ages as well as Port wine, the importance and ingenuity of these "Levadas" irrigation canals created to overcome the unequal distribution of resources in water and which are today traveled by hikers from all over the world.
